Youth Is The Most Glorious Time For Labor —— Our School's 2024 Student Labor Skills Competition Has Come To A Successful Conclusion

Labor writes the chapter of the times and hard work creates a better future. In order to implement President Xi Jinping’s important discourse on labor education, promote the spirit of labor in the new era, and strengthen labor education, our school held the 2024 Student Labor Skills Competition from May 27th to 29th. Nearly 200 students from 16 representative teams of the entire school participated in competitions such as dumpling making, life skills, soft rope ladder making, and handicraft making, showcasing their solid labor skills and innovative spirit on site.
Vice President Feng Baoqiang attended the opening ceremony of the Student Labor Skills Competition and delivered a speech. He put forward three hopes on how to further improve labor education work: firstly, teachers and students should raise awareness, deeply understand the importance of labor education, systematically think about the goals of labor education and the content and form of labor education practice activities, actively building a labor education model with school characteristics; Secondly, the Ministry of Education and Labor should innovate competition forms, demonstrate the educational effectiveness of labor education, highlight the practical theme of "cultivating morality through labor, strengthening intelligence through labor, strengthening physical fitness through labor, and cultivating beauty through labor", actively innovate and expand new forms of labor culture construction, promoting people’s comprehensive development through labor education; Thirdly, students should promote the spirit of innovation, continuously create new labor value, and strive to become socialist builders and successors with comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor.
During the competition, each contestant demonstrated extremely high enthusiasm and superb skills. In the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) project, contestants proficiently demonstrate every step of CPR in front of a simulated person, from environmental assessment to chest compressions, from open airway to artificial respiration, with standardized and orderly movements. In the competition of making a soft rope ladder, the contestants worked together as a team, and quickly completed the rope ladder work that was both sturdy and exquisite in craftsmanship. The Handicraft Contest received more than 100 pieces of works in various categories, such as silk cutting enamel, twist stick hairpin flower, crochet knitting, cross stitch, Paper Cuttings, grain painting, batik, etc., which fully demonstrated students' imagination and practical ability. After the competition, students expressed that they not only experienced the joy and sense of achievement of labor, but also gained a better understanding of the value and significance of labor.
After the intense competition, the School of Physical Education won the first prize in the group competition, the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Economics and Management won the second prize in the group competition, and the School of Fine Arts and Design, the School of Geographic Science and Environment, the School of Teacher Education, and the School of Marxism won the third prize in the group competition.
Labor brings rewards, while action brings excitement. The student labor skills competition is an important measure to strengthen labor education. The person in charge of the Ministry of Education (Office) stated that they will continue to promote the spirit of labor in the new era, design and carry out a series of "practical, efficient, interesting, and enjoyable" labor education practice activities, condense the characteristics of labor education, making labor "real" and "sound".
