On September 23, Shijiazhuang Science and Technology Lecture Series were held in our school, which was the first time for Shijiazhuang Science and Technology Lectures to enter universities. Mr. Zhang Zemin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of Biomedical Pioneering Innovation Center (BIOPIC), Peking University, Chair Professor of School of Life Sciences was invited to attend the lectures. Mr. Ma Yujun, Deputy Secretary of Shijiazhuang Municipal Committee and Mayor, presided over the lectures and delivered a speech. Chen Liang, Secretary of the Party Committee, Wang Xibo, Deputy secretary of the Party Committee, Shi Lihuai, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection, and Li Juan, vice president together attended the event. Nearly 400 teachers and students of our school participated in the event.
Zhang Zemin has rich experience in front-line scientific research and profound expertise in biomedicine, and is committed to solving the core problems in cancer biology with cutting-edge bioinformation and genomics. He has won the Top Ten Advances in China's Life Sciences, the first prize in Beijing Natural Sciences, and the Top Ten Advances in China's Bioinformatics for many times.?In the lecture, with the title of Decoding the Tumor Microenvironment: Tumor Immunotherapy from Industry and Academia, Zhang Zemin used vivid language and detailed cases to explain the molecular mechanism of the difference in tumor patients’ immunotherapy response. Through understanding the overall characteristics and heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment, Zhang explained the difference of tumor patients' immunotherapy response in simple terms. The revelation of some “target cells” and “target molecules” that can be used as new targets provides a prospective basis for the development of new drugs and the identification of biomarkers for tumor immunity, and brings the theoretical basis and the possibility of commercial breakthroughs for personalized immunotherapy in the future. This lecture has brought a grand academic event for teachers and students, and strengthened the determination and confidence of teachers and students to engage in scientific research.
Huang Yihan, a student majoring in Pharmaceutical Engineering from the School of Chemical Engineering and School of Biomedicine in Grade 2024, said that Academician Zhang demonstrated different methods and approaches to tumor immunotherapy in the academic and medical circles through vivid pictures and detailed explanations. This science and technology lecture is not only a feast of knowledge, but also a spiritual baptism. It makes me more determined to pursue my scientific dream, and I hope that I can contribute to the development of medical and health care in our country in the future. Yang Chen, a student majoring in human geography and urban and rural planning in the School of Geographic Sciences and Environment in Grade 2022, said that she benefited a lot from Professor Zhang’s lecture on tumor cell microenvironment. The lecture revealed a new perspective of tumor treatment—not only to inhibit cell proliferation, but also to analyze and intervene in the tumor microenvironment, which not only broadened my vision, but also stimulated my interest in interdisciplinary research, and brought new enlightenment for my future development.
