Recently, the 11th Chinese Undergraduate Physics Experiment Competition (Teaching Competition) was held at Sun Yat-sen University. The team consisting of Zhang Yi and Li Yiman, both physics majors, Grade 2023 at School of Science in SJZU, won one second-class award and one third-class award.
The competition attracted participants from 122 universities, including those affiliated with the National Physics Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers and the 2.0 Base of Top-notch Student Training Program for Basic Disciplines in Physics from the Ministry of Education. The competition adopted an on-site question-posing format, requiring contestants to complete experiments and submit reports within a limited time. It focused on assessing the contestants’ comprehensive practical abilities, including experimental design, experimental operation, data processing, and on-the-spot adaptability.
During the preparation period, the Academic Affairs Office coordinated various participation matters and collaborated with the School of Science to develop a scientific and systematic preparation plan. Through various methods, such as strengthening experimental theory and operational training, analyzing past exam questions and conducting virtual simulation experiments, students’ comprehensive experimental literacy was comprehensively improved, providing strong guarantees for achieving excellent results in the competition. The excellent result achieved in this competition is a concrete manifestation of our long-standing commitment to the educational philosophy of “promoting learning, teaching, and innovation through competition” in SJZU, and it is also an important achievement of our continuous efforts to promote the improvement of students’ comprehensive literacy in SJZU.
This competition is jointly organized by the Physics Group of the Joint Committee of National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers of Higher Education Institutions, the Organizing Committee of the National College Physics Experiment Competition, and the National Association for Experimental Physics Teaching and Research in Higher Education Institutions, which is guided by the Joint Committee of National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers of Higher Education Institutions, the Teaching Guidance Committee of University Physics Courses of the Ministry of Education, the Teaching Guidance Committee of Physics Majors of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, the Physics Experiment Special Committee of the Teaching Guidance Committee of University Physics Courses of the Ministry of Education, and Teaching Guidance Committee of the Chinese Physical Society. It is an important national-level competition that has been shortlisted for the national ranking of ordinary university students’ competitions.
