On the afternoon of September 22, the launching ceremony of the Hebei Provincial Youth “Dual Carbon” Knowledge and Technological Innovation Competition was held in our university, with Vice President Feng Baoqiang in attendance.

The competition is jointly organized by the Population, Resources, and Environment Committee of the Hebei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Hebei Department of Ecology and Environment, Hebei Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, Communist Youth League of Hebei Provincial Committee, and Hebei Higher Education Association. It is co-sponsored by a number of institutions including China Construction Bank Hebei Branch, Bank of China Hebei Branch, HBIS Digital Technology Co., Ltd., and Hengshui University. Our university, together with Hebei Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Research Association and Great Wall New Media Group, undertakes the competition. Representatives from various departments of our university, including heads of the Scientific Research Office and the Carbon Neutrality Center, alongside leaders and faculty-student representatives from the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences, School of Chemical Engineering and Biopharmaceuticals, School of Future Information Technology, and School of Arts and Design, as well as social delegates, attended the ceremony.At the launching ceremony, leaders and guests including Xu Chunfang, Director of the Population, Resources and Environment Committee of Hebei Provincial CPPCC, Liu Weiqing, Vice Chairman of Hebei Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, Wang Tingshan, President of Hebei Higher Education Association, Zhu Kaifeng, Vice President of Hengshui University, Xu Guanglu, General Manager of HBIS Digital Technology Co., Ltd., Yao Zhenjun, President of Hebei Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Research Association, and Li Yao, Member of the Party Committee of Great Wall New Media Group and Editor-in-Chief of Hebei Economic Daily, attended and delivered speeches.

Xu Chunfang emphasized in her speech that the “dual carbon” goals (carbon peak and carbon neutrality) are crucial pathways for China to achieve high-quality development and build an ecological civilization system, encouraging young people to actively participate and contribute their wisdom.Wang Tingshan stated that the higher education sector will fully support the competition, promoting deep integration between “dual carbon” education and innovation of science and technology

Vice President Feng Baoqiang noted in his speech that, as a local university, Shijiazhuang University is closely aligning itself with national strategic needs and regional socio-economic development. By implementing the “1396” development strategy, the university continues to strengthen its mission to serve local green development. It will leverage its talent and innovation advantages to fully support the organization of this competition, providing youth with a high-level platform for innovation of science and technology, and contributing university-powered momentum to regional low-carbon transformation. Zhu Kaifeng expressed the hope of deepening cooperation through the competition and jointly providing talent support for Hebei's “Dual Carbon” goals. As a corporate representative, Xu Guanglu said that enterprises will actively support young people’s innovative practices in the field of green technology and promote the development of industry-university-research collaboration. Yao Zhenjun reviewed the achievements made since the first “Dual Carbon” knowledge competition last year, and pointed out that this year’s competition has further expanded in content and scope of participation, with greater emphasis on the integrated innovation of knowledge and technology. Yao Yuanliang, Secretary-General of the Competition, gave a detailed introduction to the competition process, competition units and participation methods.

At the end of the launching ceremony, the participating leaders took the stage together and officially launched this year’s competition with a symbolic session of “Injecting Profound Ice Energy”.

Hosting this competition is an important measure for the Carbon Neutrality Research Center of our university to thoroughly implement the university’s “1396” development strategy and strive to build a “Progressive Shijiazhuang University” and an “Open Shijiazhuang University”. It is also an important practice to actively implement the “Dual Carbon” strategy and build a scientific and technological innovation platform for young people. Relying on the competition platform, the center will deepen the “government-industry-university-research-application” collaborative innovation mechanism, promote resource sharing and complementary advantages, and strive to build a “Dual Carbon” practice highland integrating talent cultivation, technological innovation and social services, so as to inject sustained momentum into the green transformation and high-quality development of Hebei Province.
