On November 15th, the 14th National College Students’s GIS (Geographic Information System) Application Skills Competition was held at Xi’an University of Science and Technology. A team of students from the 2023 Geographical Information Science major of the school of Geography and Environment of our university, including Wang Zilian, Wu Yuxuan, Zhou Yuhan, and Zhang Menghan, competed with many top universities such as Wuhan University, Zhejiang University and China University of Geosciences. With solid theoretical foundation, excellent practical skills, and efficient teamwork, our university’s representative team ultimately won the first prize in the national competition, setting a record for our university since its participation in 2018.
Since September, the School of Geographic Science and Environment has actively carried out preparatory work, selected outstanding contestants for team training, and completed competition support work such as network equipment debugging and simulation testing. This competition attracted more than 1000 students from 182 universities across the country to participate both online and offline, setting a new historical high in the scale of participation.
This competition is hosted by the Chinese Geographical Society of China and the China Geographic Information Industry Association, and is the most authoritative and influential skills competition for undergraduate students in the field of geographic information in China. The competition focuses on testing students’ three core abilities in spatial data processing, mapping expression, and spatial analysis modeling, covering the full chain application skills of geographic spatial data collection, storage, management, and analysis.
