Our University Holds Conference on Promoting High-Quality Disciplinary Development
Release time:2026-04-21 10:28:42stamp
On the afternoon of April 17, the university held a conference on promoting high-quality discipline development, where it made comprehensive arrangements for key discipline construction work in this academic year and made deliberate efforts to steadily advance discipline construction toward high quality. Vice President Feng Baoqiang attended the conference and delivered a speech, accompanied by leaders of the university-level key disciplines and relevant staff from the Graduate Education Development Center.
Based on the university’s actual disciplinary development needs, Feng Baoqiang made comprehensive arrangements for this year’s key discipline construction work and put forward four requirements: First, anchor the direction and exert sustained effort and persevere for lasting success. Each discipline should build on its own foundation, accurately position its disciplinary orientation, and focus on core areas for in-depth cultivation, avoiding scattered efforts. With the spirit of “driving nails”--persistent and meticulous effort--disciplines should be developed in a distinctive and refined manner, gradually forming irreplaceable disciplinary strengths. Second, stay results-oriented and strictly control the quality of outcomes. Research content must be highly aligned with the core development direction of the discipline. The extensive development model of piecing together research results and piling up quantity must be firmly rejected. With a focus on key areas such as ESI disciplines, the university should strive for new breakthroughs and achievements. Third, strengthen disciplinary teams and consolidate the foundation for development. The level of discipline construction determines the university’s academic level, and talent is the foundation of discipline building. Each discipline must focus on cultivating and attracting high-level talent, building disciplinary teams with reasonable structures, clear division of responsibilities, and coordinated efforts. The leading and exemplary role of discipline leaders should be fully leveraged to simultaneously enhance the overall research capacity and output of the teams. Fourth, promote the transformation of research achievements and enhance service effectiveness. Serving local development is an important mission of discipline construction. Each discipline must actively respond to the needs of local leading industries and key sectors, promote deep integration of discipline construction with local development, improve the mechanism for transforming research achievements, and facilitate the movement of scientific research from “laboratory” to “production line,” thereby effectively strengthening the capacity and quality of disciplinary services for local economic and social development.
Zhao Ligong, Director of the Graduate Education Development Center, summarized the completion of key discipline tasks in 2025 and introduced the mid-term assessment of key disciplines in 2026 and the related funding support policies. He expressed the hope that key discipline leaders would further unify their thinking, build consensus, and effectively implement all tasks assigned at the meeting, jointly pushing the university’s high-quality disciplinary development to a new level.
